A unique photographic testimony of the International Polar Year 2007-2008: one of the most ambitious internationally coordinated and interdisciplinary research endeavours ever attempted

Thousands of scientists, from more than 60 countries and a wide range of research disciplines, were involved in more than 160 projects. They have gained new understanding about the role of the polar regions in the Earth system. Our planet is changing at an unprecedented pace. Discovering our polar heritage helps us prepare for a better future, wherever we live. The International Polar Year is a joint initiative of the International Council for Science and WMO.
