Message from the Secretary-General

Dear visitor,

I am very pleased to welcome you to the new WMO homepage.

The Web is today an essential and highly cost-effective tool for disseminating information, data and products. In many countries, it has largely replaced many of the more traditional methods whilst, in others, it is gaining ground at an increasing pace, thanks to its timeliness and versatility, as well as the possibilities that it offers for direct interaction. It is also in the interest of our global community that all developing countries and, in the particular, the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), can achieve full Internet access and capabilities as soon as possible.

I am confident that the WMO Website will become an important tool for the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services of all WMO Members, as well as for the wider scientific community, academia and the general public. The re-design of the WMO homepage was a major project because, beyond its practical usefulness, the homepage also serves as a key window on WMO's activities and achievements.

The site is now simpler, easier to explore, sober, yet eye-catching. I hope that our regular visitors will find the new WMO homepage even more attractive than its predecessor and its search capabilities much more efficient and user-friendly, so that both our traditional and our newer visitors will wish to return to it more often.

Your feedback will be most welcome and very valuable in ensuring that the WMO Web page continues to evolve and does indeed meet your expectations. Finally, I would like to thank all those who have collaborated in this effort.

      Thank you for your visit.

        Michel Jarraud
Secretary-General of WMO
