A series of international events—the Millennium Assembly at United Nations Headquarters in New York, the Sydney 2000 Olympics and the Hannover 2000 Expo—involve WMO participation and visibility. At WMO Headquarters, the International Weather Broadcast Festival and the participation of the International Association of Broadcast Meteorology enhance the commemorative events. Special social events, intended for a wider audience, including the launching of the WMO50 balloon and the opening of the WMO50 Exhibition by Prof. G.O.P. Obasi, Secretary General of WMO, will also take place. The Exhibition features photographic displays, real-time satellite images of the weather around the world, miniatures, historical and modern meteorological instruments and special booth displays. |
