Tropical Cyclone Centers

A tropical cyclone, also known as a hurricane or typhoon, creates a staggering amount of havoc. Years of development can be wiped out within a few hours.

Tropical cyclones are intense low-pressure systems which form over warm ocean waters at low latitudes. They are associated with strong winds, torrential rain and storm surges in coastal areas.

Through WMO, warnings and preparedness activities have been implemented and are constantly being improved in the five tropical cyclone areas of the globe. The Specialized Regional Tropical Cyclone Centres have established their own home pages, with links found here.
