Data, tools and methods for climate information services for food and agriculture

Objective:

FAO can offer a wide range of data, tools and methods for the assessment of climate impact and vulnerabilities, as well as for planning of climate change adaptation practices as related to agriculture and food security. This side event provides an overview about key FAO climate services to support agricultural communities. Building on the existing national, regional and international collaborations, presentations elaborate on FAO’s tools, methods and approaches in developing countries.

 

Overall Idea

The FAO data, tools and methods covers Global Agroecological Zoning (GAEZ), agrometeorological services, including software, agroclimatic database management system, crop yield forecasting toolkit, and a standardized methodology on climate change impact assessment on agriculture. The side event describes FAO’s recent efforts on development of customized climate information products and services and Medium-Term Warning Systems for Food Security, presenting few experiences in implementing those methodologies.
