Gabon National Meteorological Service launches new Website

The Gabon National Meteorological Service has launched a new Website, Meteo Gabon, at www.meteogabon.maswurong.com

The site, available in French, contains official forecasts for the capital and provinces, as well as maps, photos and background information on agrometeorology, geography and hydrology in Gabon. The site content continues to grow, and plans are underway to add climatology information shortly.

WMO and Mexico sign agreement to strengthen ties

WMO Secretary-General Mr Michel Jarraud and the Permanent Representative of Mexico, Mr Adrián Vázquez, signed an agreement today which will contribute to a project to help modernize the the National Meteorological Service of Mexico.

The aim is to meet the demand for high-quality weather and climate information products and services from a range of public and private institutions. This is part of a 10-year Strategic Development Plan that the National Meteorological Service of Mexico began in 2010.

The agreement was signed at WMO headquarters in Geneva. It will also be signed in Mexico by Mr Jose Luis Luege, Director-General of the National Water Commission of Mexico. 


Severe Tropical Cyclone YASI in the Coral Sea

Severe Tropical Cyclone YASI has developed in the Coral Sea, and is currently located around 14.4S, 154.9E at 0600UTC, 1 February, about 1000 km  east northeast of Cairns and east northeast of Townsville of northeast Australia. It is of the intensity currently estimated at Category 3, and moving west southwest at 34 km per hour. It is expected to slowly intensify in the next 24 hours and continue moving in the west-southwesterly direction.
