[1] The following statement is given at the request of the Government of the People's Republic of China:
“On 11 October 1947, the representative of the Chinese Government signed the Convention of the World Meteorological Organization. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, her rightful seat in WMO was usurped by the Chiang Kai-shek clique, whose `ratification' of the Convention of the World Meteorological Organization on 2 March 1951 was illegal and null and void. The rightful seat of the People's Republic of China was restored to her on 25 February 1972.”
[2] Through the accession of the German Democratic Republic (accession to WMO deposited 23 May 1973) to the Federal Republic of Germany, effective from 3 October 1990, the two German States have united to form one sovereign State.
[3] Yugoslavia ratified the Convention of the World Meteorological Organization on 7 December 1948. The Federal Republic of Yugoslavia deposited its instrument of accession to the WMO Convention on 21 February 2001. Since 4 February 2003, the name “Serbia and Montenegro” was used instead of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
On 3 June 2006, the National Assembly of Montenegro adopted a declaration of its independence. The President of the Republic of Serbia notified the Secretary-General of the United Nations that the membership of the state union Serbia and Montenegro in the United Nations, including all organs and organizations of the United Nations system, is continued by the Republic of Serbia. The United Nations confirmed the membership on 6 June 2006. The Republic of Montenegro became a Member of the United Nations on 28 June 2006.
[4] The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Yemen Arab Republic (deposited on 8 June 1971) and the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen (deposited on 28 January 1969) informed that the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen and the Yemen Arab Republic merged into a single sovereign State called the Republic of Yemen as it was proclaimed on Tuesday 22 May 1990.
[5] The Permanent Mission of USSR in Geneva notified officially the Organization on 25 December 1991 that the membership of USSR with WMO would be continued, with the support of the States of the Commonwealth of Independent States, by the Russian Federation.
[6] Following the decision of the United Nations General Assembly on 8 April 1993, the State is being provisionally referred to for all purposes of the Organization as “The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia” pending settlement of the difference that has arisen over its name.
[7] The Republic of South Viet Nam deposited its instrument of accession to the WMO Convention on 2 March 1955. The Democratic Republic of Viet Nam deposited its instrument of accession of the WMO Convention on 8 July 1975. The reunification of Viet Nam was completed on 2
July 1976 as the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.
