WMO procurement
Registration procedureThe Procurement and Travel Services Division of WMO maintains a database of suppliers from all over the world. In addition, the unit makes frequent use of the UN Global Marketplace database and a database of suppliers registered with the Association of Hydro-Meteorological Equipment Industry (HMEI). New suppliers who offer goods and services of current interest are encouraged to send their catalogues and leaflets in order to be included in the list of potential suppliers. Competitive biddingWhenever practicable, procurement is effected on the basis of international competitive bidding. Prospective suppliers are selected from the above databases of companies. For contracts with a value greater than CHF 100 000 or equivalent, prospective suppliers are sent an Invitation to Bid (ITB) (in the case of goods), or a Request for Proposal (RFP) (in the case of services). Bids must be submitted in an approved manner; technical and financial bids are submitted separately and in sealed envolopes. The technical bids are opend at a Public Bid Opening. Selection is made on the basis of conformity to specifications, technical acceptability, quality, delivery schedules and price.
