Buoy WMO Identification numbers

WMO identification numbers are allocated to ocean platforms reporting on the Global Telecommunication System (GTS). WMO numbers are allocated depending upon deployment area, and platform type (i.e. drifting buoys, moored buoys, ocean reference sites, and profiling floats).
