  • 20 July 2015: Weybourne Atmospheric Observatory, United Kingdom was accepted as a GAW Regional station
  • 16 July 2015: the NASA Micro-pulse Lidar Network (MPLNET) joined GAW as a contributing network
  • 15 July 2015: the I-AMICA Environmental-Climate Observatories of Lecce, Lamezia Terme, Capo Granitola and Monte Curcio (Italy) were accepted as GAW Regional stations
  • 6 May 2015: The monthly global average concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere exceeded 400 parts per million in March 2015 for the first time on record, according to the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) (press release and web news)

  • 18 August 2014: Station Puy de Dome (France) was upgraded to GAW Global station
  • 25 July 2014: Station Pha Din (Viet Nam) was accepted as GAW Regional station
  • 26 June 2014: MoU has been signed with Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ) assigning FZJ as a World Calibration Centre for Nitrogen Oxides (NOx).
  • 19 June 2014:  new experimental service for NRT dust detection was activated at Monte Cimone GAW Global station (still in advanced test phase) at:
  • 18 June 2014: The result of the 4th methane reference gas intercomparison for the South-West Pacific are posted on WCC-JMA website.
  • 16 June 2014: Montseny and Montsec stations, Spain were accepted as GAW Regional stations.
  • 4 June 2014: Ushuaia GAW Global Station resumed the ozonesounding activity
  • 6 May 2014: CIMOD’s Second Annual Regional Atmospheric Science (SARAS) Workshop will be held in the resort town of Pokhara, Nepal, on 7 – 9 June 2014. Deadline for abstract submission is 9 May 2014. Please register here.
  • 22 April 2014: The WMO CO standards produced at the CCL in Boulder are now
    referenced to a new measurement scale denoted WMO CO X2014.

  • 26 February 2014: reports of station audits by World Calibration Centre for Aerosol Physics (WCCAP) are made available at WCCAP web page.
  • 22 November 2013: first seasonal report concerning atmospheric observations at the Mt. Cimone CNR "O. Vittori" GAW Global Station is published. The Report is downloadable at the Mt.Cimone site

  • 21 October 2013: The specialized cancer agency of the World Health Organization, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), announced on 17 October 2013 that it has classified outdoor air pollution as carcinogenic to humans. The press release is at
  • 18 October 2013: MACC "Validation reports covering the global NRT forecast and analysis system" are available on-line. Those reports include results of validations with GAW NRT data from 12 stations.
  • 28 May 2013: MoU has been signed with National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) assigning NIST as a Central Calibration Laboratory for monoterpenes.
  • 1 May 2013: GAW Regional Station Halley (75.62S 26.18W; 30 m a.s.l.) was upgraded to a GAW Global station.
Hallye stations
  •  19 April 2013:  The global ceilometer map supported by DWD was updated with US ceilometers at airports (ASOS stations). This nearly doubled the content of the page.
