  • 26 July 2016: A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between In-service Aircraft for Global Observing System (IAGOS) Association Internationale Sans But Lucratif (AISBL) and WMO/GAW.
  • 14 June 2016: Bachok Marine Research Station, Malaysia was accepted as a GAW Regional station
  • 5 June 2016: World Environment Day. WMO and Global Atmosphere Watch invite all GAW stations and GAW colleagues to participate in the celebration of the World Environment Day 2016. A message has been sent to all the GAW Country Contacts.
  • 25 February 2016: The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) launches the first SF6 Inter-Comparison Experiment (SICE-2016) in its functions as the World Calibration Centre for SF6 (first announcement and registration form).
  • 2 December 2015: The Clean Air Status and Trends Network of  the United States of America( “CASTNET”) has joined GAW as a contributing network
  • 20 July 2015: Weybourne Atmospheric Observatory, United Kingdom was accepted as a GAW Regional station
  • 16 July 2015: the NASA Micro-pulse Lidar Network (MPLNET) joined GAW as a contributing network
  • 15 July 2015: the I-AMICA Environmental-Climate Observatories of Lecce, Lamezia Terme, Capo Granitola and Monte Curcio (Italy) were accepted as GAW Regional stations
  • 6 May 2015: The monthly global average concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere exceeded 400 parts per million in March 2015 for the first time on record, according to the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) (press release and web news)
  • 17 February 2015: IGAC/DEBITS AFRICA project joined GAW asa contributing network
  • 14 November 2014: IMPORTANT NOTE: SF6 scale has been updated (announcement)
  • 24 November 2014: Inuvik, Cambridge Bay, Behchoko, Baker Lake, Fort Nelson, Fort Mckay, Abbotsford, Downsview, Toronto, Turkey Point and Hanlan’s Point stations, Canada were accepted as GAW Regional stations
  • 18 August 2014: Station Puy de Dome (France) was upgraded to GAW Global station
  • 25 July 2014: Station Pha Din (Viet Nam) was accepted as GAW Regional station
  • 26 June 2014: MoU has been signed with Forschungszentrum J├╝lich (FZJ) assigning FZJ as a World Calibration Centre for Nitrogen Oxides (NOx).
  • 16 June 2014: Montseny and Montsec stations, Spain were accepted as GAW Regional stations.
  • 21 October 2013: The specialized cancer agency of the World Health Organization, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), announced on 17 October 2013 that it has classified outdoor air pollution as carcinogenic to humans. The press release is at
  • 18 October 2013: MACC "Validation reports covering the global NRT forecast and analysis system" are available on-line. Those reports include results of validations with GAW NRT data from 12 stations.
  • 28 May 2013: MoU has been signed with National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) assigning NIST as a Central Calibration Laboratory for monoterpenes.
  • 1 May 2013: GAW Regional Station Halley (75.62S 26.18W; 30 m a.s.l.) was upgraded to a GAW Global station.
Hallye stations
  •  19 April 2013:  The global ceilometer map supported by DWD was updated with US ceilometers at airports (ASOS stations). This nearly doubled the content of the page.
