1.   Purpose and objectives

     To digitize raingauge records using a PC and a digitizer. The program allows analysing of natural siphon raingauge charts and tipping-bucket raingauge charts.

2.   Description

     The first part of the program consists in extracting the data from raingauge records using the digitizer. Once this is done, the second part of the program analyses these data in order to calculate the intensity of precipitation every five minutes and the maximum intensity of precipitation during intervals of 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 45, 60, 120 and 180 minutes, 6, 12  and 24 hours, when the duration of the event allows the analysis.

     Raingauge charts.

4.   Output

     Analysis of the raingauge charts every five minutes, and the maximum intensity of precipitation in the intervals listed above.

5.   Operational requirements and restrictions

     The PC and the digitizer can be operated by technical personnel with little computer skills since the application of this system does not require a profound knowledge of computers operation. The required hardware comprises a PC with a 386 or better processor and a Hewlett-Packard Sketch Pro or a Genius Histech 1212 or 1812 digitizer. The program works with a wide 9-pins dot matrix printer (IBM Proprinter or Epson FX Series emulation).

6.   Form of presentation

     The program is written in BASIC and is supplied on a 3.5 inch diskette.

7.   Operational experience

     This system is used for routine analysis of recording raingauge information.
