Information about the High-level Segment

1. Introduction

Cg-XVI will include a High-Level Segment (HLS) on 16 and 17 May 2011 which will provide a unique opportunity to dignitaries of the WMO Members to review progress and chart the way forward by agreeing on the strategic role of WMO and the resources to support key priorities and concrete actions to further advance its contribution to the safety and well-being of people throughout the world and to the economic benefit of all nations.

2. Organization of the HLS

The HLS will consist of statements by Members representatives and will start on 16 May 2011 at 3:30 p.m. and end at 5:30 p.m. and will resume on 17 May at 9:30 a.m., extending into the day as would be required by the number of registered interventions. Addresses by Members representatives would have to be limited in time, with an ideal target of five (5) minutes for each speech.

The WMO Secretariat will set up a tentative programme of the HLS based on indication by governments of the dignitaries who are going to attend and who have expressed their intention to deliver a speech. The order of interventions will follow UN protocol.

3. Requirements for statements

Ten (10) copies of statements to be delivered at the HLS would have to be provided in advance of the Conference so that the Conference Desk may be informed about any interpretation requirements and also for the Secretariat records and eventual posting on the WMO Website after delivery of the statements.

No paper copies will be distributed by the WMO Secretariat to delegations.
