What is e-Forum

Discussion will start on 7 December 2009 and will be closed by 31 January 2010

Past experience has shown that many developing countries have been unable to participate in the sessions of the Commission. In an effort to increase the involvement of such Member countries that may not be able to send a delegation to attend the session physically, a Pre-session e-forum on some of the most important topics is being facilitated. Further, it is expected that a pre-session discussion can prepare us better for the session, by resolving some issues in advance or consolidating the outstanding issues for a more focused discussion. This can substantially optimize the utilization of the time allocated for individual agenda items.

CCl advises and guides WMO and its 189 Member countries on programmes, projects and activities that are of high relevance in addressing issues of great societal benefit related to climate. The discussion would be carried as a virtual forum. Following are the five themes on which the e-forum will be organized:

A. CCl Strategic Planning
B. Priorities for the Future Work of the Commission
C. Follow-up to WCC-3
D. Capacity Building
E. CCl Work Plan and Structure

CCl Agenda Items and Titles of Document focusing on the above five themes are shown in the Table below.

Enlarge Members’ involvement in CCl-XV preparation

All Members of the Commission, including those that may not be able to attend the next session, are invited to contribute to the debate on these themes and to the formulation of the final decisions thereon. Members are also invited to encourage other national institutions (e.g. universities and research centres, standardization authorities, state and local services active in water related issues, etc.) to participate in the Pre-Session e-forum in the areas of their respective expertise. Please consider that the Commission addresses global issues of interest of the climatology community, therefore your contribution shall be as far as possible of general interest.
