The South African President, His Excellency Mr Jacob Zuma opened the Conference and pointed to the climate impacts in Africa as a reason for all governments to take action. The newly elected President of the conference, South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ms Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, stressed that Durban would be a decisive moment for the future of the multilateral rules-based regime. |

Mr Mannava Sivakumar made a presentation on the “High Level Meeting on National Drought Policy” at the Event on “Global Drought Monitoring: Improving Regional Cooperation for Mitigation and Adaptation to Drought” which was organized by the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) at the U.S. Center from 17:00 to 18:30 hrs.

Later the WMO delegation attended the reception for delegates to COP-17 hosted by the South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ms Maite Nkoana-Mashabane. |
