The WMO delegation comprising of Mr Jerry Lengoasa, Mr Mannava Sivakumar, Mr Amir Delju, Mr Adrian Simmons (Chair, GCOS Steering Committee), Mr William Westermeyer, and Ms Marie Heuzé, Consultant, participated in the Opening Session of COP-17 in Durban.

His Excellency Jacob Zuma   The South African President, His Excellency Mr Jacob Zuma opened the Conference and pointed to the climate impacts in Africa as a reason for all governments to take action. The newly elected President of the conference, South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ms Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, stressed that Durban would be a decisive moment for the future of the multilateral rules-based regime.

Mr Jerry Lengoasa presented a statement from WMO at the Plenary Session of SBSTA 35.

Mr Mannava Sivakumar made a presentation on the “High Level Meeting on National Drought Policy” at the Event on “Global Drought Monitoring: Improving Regional Cooperation for Mitigation and Adaptation to Drought” which was organized by the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) at the U.S. Center from 17:00 to 18:30 hrs.
