Panel on Climate Services for Adaptation to Climate Change in Indonesia
Indonesia organized a Climate Change Day, comprising various seminars and panel discussions. The Secretary General of WMO participated in the Panel on Climate Services for Adaptation to Climate Change in Indonesia. Other panelists included the Permanent Representative of Indonesia with WMO, Deputy Director General of Climatology, the Director of the Centre for Climate Change and Air Quality of Indonesia (BMKG), a representative of the German Meteorological Services (DWD) and a representative of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety of Germany (BMU). The event provided details about two specific projects being currently undertaken by BMKG, namely DATACLIM supported by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the Climate Services Information System of BMKG that provides various map products. It was also provided with the experiences of Germany in climate services. The panel discussion addressed issues related to access to data, user needs, user interfaces and capacity development for the provision of climate services.
