PROGRAMME NAME

Ocean Buoy Programme (BUOY)
The Marine Meteorology and Oceanography Programme
WMO/World Weather Watch Programme (WWW)

 URL/ Website http://www.jcomm.info
Description

As a contribution to the WWW/GOS, the network comprises more than 200 moored buoys for surface and sub-surface meteorological and oceanographic variables; and about 1,200 drifting buoys for surface meteorological and marine variables (about half of them reporting sea level pressure). All in situ components are coordinated with ocean satellite observations. These platforms are owned and operated by Members of WMO and Member States of IOC, and coordinated as part of a global operational system by JCOMM. Data quality monitoring is undertaken primarily by RSMC Bracknell, the European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting and the Marine Environmental Data Centre, Canada, as well as a number of operational meteorological and oceanographic centres participating in the quality control guidelines operated by the DBCP.
Details of buoy and float platforms are available through JCOMMOPS.
