The Seventh Edition of the CIMO Guide, WMO Publication No. 8, was published in 2008. Most proposals for updates or amendments received to date – from Expert Teams, Working Groups and/or Panels of both the Commission for Instruments and Methods of Observation (CIMO); and the Joint Commission for Oceanography and Marine Meteorology (JCOMM) – have been compiled into the Draft First Supplement to the Seventh Edition of the CIMO Guide.

The Commission, at its upcoming fifteenth session, will be invited to establish an Editorial Board for the CIMO Guide. In the expectation, that CIMO-XV would concur, the Editorial Board will first examine the controversial issues and major updates, before being submitted to the Commission for approval. For this reason, proposed changes so far received and falling under these predicaments have been temporarily excluded.

I invite you to download a copy, examine the text and send your comments or suggestions to the WMO Secretariat to J. Duvernoy (jduvernoyalt textwmo.int), as soon as possible and no later than 25 July 2010, in order to allow for sufficient time to produce a
Final Draft Supplement to be submitted to CIMO-XV for approval.
