Format for the presentation of the results
of the monitoring of the WWW operation on electronic media
1. Introduction
If a monitoring centre experiences difficulties in introducing the format or part of it, this centre is invited to clearly indicate the part of the format, that it could not use, in the CCCCIN.TTT (see hereunder paragraph 2).
2. Format of directories and sub-directories

4. Databases structures
The Borland International’s dBase is used to process/ analyse the monitoring results at the WMO Secretariat.
4.1. Data types
Three data types used for the annual global monitoring:
- character (all ASCI characters),

- numeric (- (minus sign), . (decimal point), 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9)
|
- date (number and “/” to separate year, month and day)
|
4.1.1. Character and numeric types
The numeric data type shall be restricted to quantities/ values. Therefore, the data type for STATION_ID FIELD (IIiii) as well as for the AHL_YYGGGG field shall be character.
4.1.2. Date type
The date format MDY and DMY is not adequate to index database on date field. The WMO Secretariat recommends to use the data format CYMD (CenturyYear/Month/Day) e.g. "1999/10/01" (1999 October 1st).
4.2. Detail information of fields
- DISTRIB is a code to indicate the type of monitoring : G for global, R for regional, N for national, S for special, B for bilateral etc.

- DBASE_QC indicate the database used for monitoring (T for telecommunication and D for data processing) and whether the received bulletin and/or report have been checked for quality level: 0 is no quality check, 1 to 9 indicates levels of quality control (to be defined).
|
- The description of the other fields is given in paragraph 7 (list of data base structures).
|
5. ASCII format
a. Files created in ASCII must strictly adhere to the structure of the database detailed in paragraph 7:
- The order and width of each field must strictly adhere to the structure of the database;
|
- the date format in ASCII is CCYYMMDD (CenturyYearMonthDay).
|
- the length of the record must be the same with the total length of the record as in the structure of the database;
|
- each record must be put in one line (one line for one record) and ended with a carriage return and a line feed.
|
- no additional line (line feed) at the end of the file.
|
b.
Delimitation between fields:
The fields should be surrounded by quotes (") and separated by commas (,). Each record should end with a carriage return and a line feed.
6.
Diskette
| a. |
The files may be provided on 3.5 inch HD/DD (1.4 MB/ 720 KB) diskette or 3.5 inch SUPER Disk (120 MB). |
| b. |
The diskettes must be formatted with MS DOS or IBM DOS format. Reused diskette must be reformatted to avoid any cross-link between the first and the second FAT (file allocation table). |
| c. |
A strong box or envelope is recommended for mailing the diskettes. |
| d. |
The box or envelope must be clearly labelled "DO NOT XRAY". |

Note: The radiosonde and radiowind BUFR/CREX observations are likely to be reported in 1, 2 or 4 bulletins as follows:
1 bulletin – IUS/KUS bulletins covering all Parts A, B, C, D
2 bulletins – IUK/KUK bulletins for Parts A, B and IUS/KUS bulletin for Parts C, D
4 bulletins –2 IUK/KUK bulletins one each for Parts A, B
and 2 IUS/KUS bulletins one each for Parts C, D
The first (not NIL) observation received in any of the bulletins should be taken into consideration to calculate the numbers given in the fields 7 to 16. The other observations should be ignored.

8. Access to the content of Annex III via the WMO Internet server
The content of Annex III may be retrieved from the WMO Internet server (ftp.wmo.int) by using the FTP server; the relevant files are listed under the subdirectory:

9. Transfer of the monitoring results to the WMO Internet server
The WMO Secretariat is willing to use Internet to receive the monitoring results from the monitoring centres. In this respect, the monitoring centres are invited to transfer their monitoring results to the WMO Internet server (ftp.wmo.int) under the subdirectory:
…/GTS_monitoring/AGM/To_WMO/YYYYMM/CCCC.YYM
where CCCC is the location indicator of the monitoring centre
(e.g. AMMC= WMC/RTH Melbourne), and require:
User-name: wmo_gtswww and
Password: www4gts
The monitoring centres are invited to inform in advance the WMO Secretariat on the possible date of the transfer (e.g. via email to Jennifer Best, Subject: AGM 1-15 October YYYY).
