Afghanistan
At least 56 people were killed, 50 declared missing and more than 1 000
rendered homeless after a severe flood in north-western Afghanistan.
Angola
The rainy season triggered an outbreak of cholera. More than 1 500 cases
were reported in late October and early November.
Democratic People’s
Republic of Korea
Heavy weather battered the east coast in late October and left more than 7 300
people homeless.
Ethiopia
Severe floods as a result of heavy rains devastated large numbers of
livestock, after a long cycle of drought.
India
At least 23 people were killed and more than 100 000 evacuated as heavy rains
and strong winds lashed Andhra Pradesh state in southern India for three days.
Indonesia
Some 10 000 people were displaced when a mudflow inundated several
villages.
Kenya
Floods triggered by heavy rains in the north-east and coastal areas killed 23
people and displaced more than 80 000.
Rwanda
Devastating floods as a result of torrential rain forced a river to burst its
banks in northern Rwanda, killing at least 25 people.
Somalia
At least 47 people were
drowned and thousands rendered homeless when two rivers burst their banks as a
result of heavy rains. At least
68 people were killed and more than 279 000 displaced.
Turkey
Flash floods caused by torrential rain killed 21 people in south-east Turkey.
USA
More than 10 cm of rain fell on New Jersey, flooding streets.

Japan
At least nine people were killed as the
deadliest tornado on record ripped through a northern Japanese town, killing
and injuring over 25 people. Several electricity poles were brought down on
the northern island of Hokkaido.

Mexico
Tropical storm Sergio formed in the
Pacific Ocean and later became a hurricane. It was an unusual late-season
storm; the second to form in the eastern Pacific in a month since 1961.
Philippines
Typhoon Chebi with
maximum winds of 195 km/h and gusts of up 230 km/h sliced through Aurora and
the cente of the main island of Luzon, causing floods, toppling trees and
power lines and damaging crops.
Typhoon Durian,
a category 4 typhoon with a wind force of up to 190 km/h and gusts of up to
225 km/h hit the northern Philippines, shutting schools, halting sea travel
and forcing hundreds of coastal residents to flee to higher ground.

A storm dropped heavy rain on western Washington state, killing at least one
person, prompting warnings of record flooding and rescues operations.
