Tropical cyclone, heavy rain, lightning, flash flood, monsoon, landslides, mudslides - Australia, Ethiopia, Greece, Lebanon and Syrian Arab Republic, Somalia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Thailand and USA 

Thunderstorms released some 4 000 bolts of lightning across south-eastern Australia and New South Wales state at the start of Australia‚Äôs summer storm season.   

At least 67 people were killed and 2 000 others displaced in flooded areas of the south-east after heavy rain in the highlands caused a river to burst its bank and flooded the towns of Kibredehar and Musthale. 

Flash floods caused by heavy rain, swept through dozens of northern villages, damaging hundreds of homes and washing away roads and bridges.  

Torrential rains triggered floods, killing at least 27 people in the capital when their homes collapsed. 

South Africa
Torrential rains in the eastern Cape caused a school in Ngqeleni to collapse.  

Sri Lanka
Heavy monsoon rains and floods killed at least 14 people and made thousands homeless. Over 55 000 families were severely affected and several roads across the south, west and centre were badly damaged.

Lebanon and Syrian Arab Republic
Torrential downpours hit the two countries in two days, killing eight people. 

Typhoon Cimaron killed at least 10 people and displaced thousands in the northern Philippines. The typhoon hit Luzon, the most populated island as a category 5 storm, tearing up trees and power lines and ripping off rooftops. 

Over 13 000 people were killed and tens of thousands of others badly affected in floods caused by heavy rain. 

Torrential rains and hurricane-force winds tore through Tennessee, downing trees and forcing closure of major roads in the Great Smoky Mountains.

In south-east Texas, at least five people were killed hundreds of homes, schools and roads were damaged in northern Louisiana.

Drought/Severe water scarcity - China, Ghana

Millions of people suffered from acute water shortage.

Water scarcity forced many people to drinking unclean water.
