Meteorological Day 2007
World Meteorological Day is celebrated every year on 23 March to commemorate the entry into force on that date in 1950 of the WMO Convention creating the Organization. In 2007, the theme for World Meteorological Day is “Polar meteorology: understanding global impacts”, in recognition of the importance of, and as a contribution to, International Polar Year (IPY) 2007-2008, which is being co-sponsored by WMO and the International Council for Science (ICSU) (see http://www.ipy.org/).
To
mark the occasion, WMO has produced a kit containing a
brochure, a poster and a message from the
Secretary-General, which may be obtained from the WMO
Secretariat. A dedicated Website carries these items in
pdf or Word (http://www.wmo.int/wmd/).
A film is also being prepared. The
next edition of MeteoWorld will contain a summary of
celebrations on the Day at the WMO Secretariat.
