Hydrology Forum 2019 - Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMI)

The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMI), with the support of the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic,  is hosting the Hydrology Forum for the Regional Association VI (RA VI) of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in Bratislava on 2 – 4 April. WMO has established this platform within the RA VI region (Europe including Russia and some Asian countries).

 ”The objective of the meeting is to define a common strategy in the region for sustainability, design and harmonisation of regional hydrological monitoring and exchange of operational experience, which would enable efficient and optimal provision of quality hydrological services and their products. Our role is also to identify new challenges for hydrological services, especially in the area of water resources management, in cooperation with the meteorological services,” said Jana Poórová, Director of the Hydrological Service Department of SHMI.

Over 50 experts from more than 30 European countries, including Russia, Turkey, Israel and Kazakhstan, will discuss the role of hydrological service, hydrological information and data and their availability and exchange, hydrological products and other issues on these days.

Ensuring sufficient water resources is a global problem that affects the whole world. These are the problems causing global economic fluctuations, global migration of population, and food sufficiency problems. In the history, the present, but also the future, human society has been, is and will be advancing mostly in the regions with sufficient water supplies. Therefore it is extremely important and beneficial to have international platforms where we can discuss these issues, share experience, but also identify the factors that will help find common solutions,” said Jana Poórová.
