The Korea Meteorological Administration will change the file format for AMV and CSR products on the GTS

13 December 2021

The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) is pleased to announce that it will change the file format for Atmospheric Motion Vector (AMV) and Clear Sky Radiance (CSR) products on the Global Telecommunication System (GTS). The KMA currently provides AMV and CSR outputs derived from the observation data of Geostationary Earth Orbit-Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite-2A (GK2A) in the Binary Universal Form for the Representation of meteorological data (BUFR) format, but it is now preparing to produce these data in BUFR format with compressed type. This will reduce the file size and make it easier to provide the data via GTS. The new BUFR data is planned to be distributed after December 21, 2021, but the file names of both AMV and CSR products will not change.

It would be appreciated if organizations that have been using these data provided by the KMA could prepare in advance for this matter. Since June 2020 the KMA has distributed AMV and CSR data via GTS by using the data observed by GK2A.
