Libya witnessed a severe sandstorm turning the sky yellow

The central and southwestern regions of Libya witnessed a severe sandstorm turning the sky yellow on 22 March.

This was due to a deep air depression of 996 millibars accompanied by strong south‐westerly winds reaching 35 knots causing stirring of dust & sands, loss of horizontal visibility over Ghat  ‐ Obari  ‐  ALGatron ‐ Sebha ‐ Al Jufrah ‐ Jalo ‐ Gighbub, and leading to the fall of power poles and car accidents in some of these regions.

The National Meteorological Centre (NMC) issued and disseminated an early warning to the public sectors and via the media 48 hours before the occurrence of this deep air depression urging them to take more care and caution.
