The northeastern regions of Libya have been affected by weather extremes on Monday and Tuesday 15 & 16 February, 2021

A cold wave hit the northeastern regions of Libya, where the maximum temperature showed decreases during the day ranging from 5°C - 11°C, and fell to nearly 0°C at night. It was accompanied by northwest winds exceeding 30 knots and rainfall between 37 - 46 mm over Al-Bayda and Shahat. It was also accompanied by snowfall over the areas of Al-Jabal AlAkhdar (Sidi Al-Hamri - Al-Fandiya - Shahat - Al-Bayda). The National Meteorological Centre (NMC) issued and disseminated an early warning to the public sectors and via the media 48 hours before the occurrence of these extremes urging them to take more care and caution.
