Assia Alexieva

Dr Assia Alexieva is the Chief of Monitoring, Evaluation, Risk and Planning Office, Cabinet of the Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). 

In this capacity she manages the results-based management cycle of the Organization, starting from strategic and operational planning to monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and reporting. She is also in charge of risk and quality management. As the co-Chair of the UN inter-agency Early Warnings for All M&E Working Group, she leads its work on the development of metrics, monitoring methodologies, and innovative data presentation tools. Dr Alexieva has previously worked at the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). She started her career at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Dr Alexieva holds a doctorate in Political Science from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva. She is author of publications on foreign policy decision-making, the climate negotiations and results-based management.
